Who is Ormond McGill?
Ormond McGill (1913-2005) was known as the “Dean of American Hypnotists” and a leading expert in hypnotherapy.
Born in Palo Alto, California, McGill fell in love with hypnosis as a child. He did his first magic show in fifth grade after seeing illusionist Herman Hansen perform. He studied psychology at San Jose State College, which helped build his hypnosis skills.
His 78-year career included stage shows, clinical work, teaching, and research. McGill traveled across Asia studying Eastern mysticism and meditation, which he mixed with Western hypnotherapy.
McGill wrote over 25 books including “The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism,” “Hypnotism and Mysticism of India,” and “The Amazing Life of Ormond McGill.” These books are must-reads for serious hypnosis students.
He taught until just days before he died in 2005, living by his motto: “Make life your playground, not your battlefield.” His teachings continue to influence hypnotherapists around the world.
